Gino Di Dio was born in Naples, Italy, and spent his childhood through adulthood there. He moved to NYC in 1978 after completing his tour of duty with the Italian Navy at 22. He enrolled in NYU for the English language program and to continue his education in mechanical technologies. He worked as a mechanical HVAC contractor for ten years. Eventually, he moved to work in the food distribution industry. Gino dabbled in various art forms, eventually finding his calling in oil painting. When he left NYC in 1996, he moved to Greensboro, NC, where he raised his two daughters, Adriana and Olivia. Gino moved to Damascus, Virginia, in 2010 with his wife Julie. Gino has natural artistic talent and is self-taught, but he has attended various workshops and worked with numerous professional artists. In recent years, Gino has shifted his focus from oil painting to woodworking with the influence of his friend Scott Lewis, an accomplished woodworker with abundant knowledge of different wood species and their characteristics. Gino brought his artistic instincts with his newfound knowledge of wood to create intriguing abstract sculptures.
